goodbyebird: Interview With The Vampire: Louis feeds from Lestat's wrist; Lestat looks on tenderly. (IWTV hunger)

Oh my.

+ Interview With The Vampire had me nervous about the shift in setting and tone, but the season 3 trailer has me extremely hyped! I only watched it once as I want to avoid soaking up too many details up front, but toe-curling excitement!!

+ Finished Alien Earth and enjoyed it for the most part. They did the alien dirty though. And that ending sure cheated me out of a bit of satisfaction; Somebody owes me a horrid death scene.

Got screengrabs from the pilot up on [community profile] capshare this morning.

+ They announced a new Rey and Leia book at NYCC, by Madeleine Roux. Please please please be good 🙏

+ I'm hopefully getting my Covid booster sometime next week, and I also talked my mom into getting it. Now to get to work on my friend group 💪 Maybe shoot them this article. Light and easy read, but very clear on the benefits of keeping the boosters going.
The new research also “calls into question the idea that younger individuals and those without risk factors don’t need the vaccine,” Viswanathan says. Instead the data show that, while the shot is most effective for older individuals and those with comorbidities, “it was also protective in those without risk factors,” she says.

Additionally, Viswanathan says that the study design made the evidence “more compelling” because the authors included enough women and younger individuals, which made the results more balanced and provided a fuller picture of vaccine effectiveness for all cohorts.

+ Some good news on that front: Scientists finally reveal bio-markers of long COVID brain fog.

Monogatari Novels has, according to Amazon, pushed back Female General and Eldest Princess and Clear and Muddy Loss of Love's release dates yet again (this time to March 2026). Like there's baihe novels I like a lot more than them, but how these titles are getting handled is really frustrating.

This and that and a very tired me.

+ All I've done since making it home is sleep, download some stuff, watch the entire season of Wayward, and play undemanding video games. Man have I slept. Would like to lie down right now and sleep some more, but I'm headed back to work for the day (we abruptly left Thursday instead of Friday as planned, so I left behind a wee bit more chaos that I'm comfortable with).

Surprisingly smooth ride on the ferry though, given the weather.

+ Dear Vidder letters for Festivids are cropping up, and they're such a pleasure to read through. Aww fandom ❤️

+ Hunting down the digital singles for Birds of Prey, bc waiting for the trade to drop in six months is just not on the table. More Big Barda and Tiny Bat NOW. And they cancelled it, so I ain't giving them extra money, no sir :p

Now to figure out how to read them in an enjoyable manner.

Oh! And posted some scans to [community profile] capshare from the second and third trade.

+ Watched the new Fantastic Four. It was cozy! I'm enjoying this new return to more child-friendly superhero movies. Like, I can see letting my nephew watch both this and the new Superman movie with me. I don't need all this dark stuff for grownups; the world is dark enough as is, gimme escapism!

+ My brain is mush. We dock sometime during tonight, so tomorrow will be another hectic day. Thankfully come Friday I shall have freedoooommmm.

+ I want a Big Barda icon but I'm too zapped to make one *sulk*

Maybe after I've had my shower.

+ Not helping: my mom constantly asking me when I can come see her in Oslo, and for plans this Christmas when she'll be visiting and living at my brother's. I do not have capacity for this. Love her to bits but it's tough to convey that SOCIAL BANK EMPTY, PLAN QUEUE FULL.

+ Booked my flu shot for next Thursday. Apparently they're not doing Covid shots at the doctor anymore, boo. And the only information I can find is that it becomes available week 42. Hopefully I manage to get in there early enough that it will mostly be in full effect by the time I go to Thailand.

+ One Battle After Another will be showing at the small local cinema next week. There's been some very positive buzz. I may try to lure some friends to come with.

+ Decided to try and move away from using GoodReads, and so far StoryGraph seems a good fit. I know there's quite a few options out there, but I only made it through two before settling on StoryGraph. (Fable being the second option, but just way too busy for me. Someone looking for a move involved and social experience might vibe with it!)

One of the fun things is you can make your own book lists or challenges. I started putting together a small Queer Comics one. I could only find two other comic/graphic novel challenges by searching, so that's certainly a void in need of filling that's what she said.

Anyways, I'm here, in case anybody else is stretching their wings.

Sad eta: Jane Goodall has passed.

Dear Festividder 2025

Dear Festividder,

Thanks so much for making me a vid! I requested the maximum amount of fandoms this year, and I'm excited to see what you will do for any one of them! Please feel free to make any kind of vid you want - happy, sad, pensive, goofy... anything is great with me. Essentially, if you’re into the vid you’re making, I’ll be into the vid you’re making! I'll add some specific things I like about each fandom below, but if you already have an idea or want to do something else, feel free to go with it.

Just a few DNWs:
1. Close-ups of realistic-looking fish. This would mainly come up in the cooking-related fandoms - basically, wide shot of someone gutting a fish? OK. Close-up of fish staring deep into my soul? Not OK. Feel free to run this past[personal profile] kuwdora if you're not sure!)

2. Please don’t use dialogue from the source over music, as I find it distracting. Other diegetic sound (like sound effects) are great, an intro or tag with dialogue are fine, and using unusual audio like poetry as your “music” is fine! I just don’t love dialogue from the source being used throughout the vid.

Music:
As I mentioned above, pretty open to whatever kind of audio you want to use, including poetry, spoken word, or whatever else you can think of. I am a strong believer in using whatever kind of music/audio that works best for the vid, even if it's not something I'd normally listen to, but if you want to know what I like, I am generally into pop, rock, alternative, anything from the 90s, and classic rock. I'd prefer no Taylor Swift if you can avoid her music, but if you have a genius idea and you truly need to make an I Am Bread vid to Love Story, I'm not going to be mad about it.

COOKING FANDOMS!

Top Chef (US)
Listen, I know this fandom has a ridiculous amount of source. I do not want this to be stressful for you. Feel free to pick your favorite season, some kind of thread throughout all of it that you want to focus on, just a vid of yummy food, quickfire disasters, etc. [personal profile] kuwdora  and I have watched 21 of the 22 seasons of Top Chef over the past year and a half (and are currently watching our final one) and it's just been a nice time. We just really love the way they are all so passionate about food. This show has also inspired me to start cooking!

Bryan & Michael Voltaggio RPF
I just really enjoy their dynamic, and think it would be fun to see a vid of the two of them. This type of sibling rivalry sounds like my worst nightmare, but it works for them, and I love that they support each other, but are still very competitive. The fact that they're both ridiculously talented in their own ways makes them so fun to watch. Feel free to either stick to Top Chef footage, or use anything else you can find.

Kristen Kish RPF
Kristen is one of my favorite Top Chef people! I would love a vid that shows her passion for cooking, her friendships with fellow chefs and judges, and especially how she is not afraid to cry and generally show her emotions. Again, feel free to stick to Top Chef (and/or Top Chef adjacent) footage if you want, but you're welcome to use whatever other source you can find.

VIDEO GAMES!

Date Everything! (Sassy Chap Games Video Game)
I absolutely love the creativity of this game. The incredibly detailed costumes! The sheer ridiculousness of dating your bathtub! I know someone could make something really fun out of the visuals of this source.

I Am Bread (Video Game)
Another game that I think would just make a really fun vid. You are a piece of bread, desperately trying to make it to the toaster to become toast. It's harder than you'd think.

Tiny Bookshop (Video Game)
This game was released a few months ago, and I'm absolutely obsessed with it. You drive a little mobile bookshop around a small seaside town, making friends with the locals, helping them with their quests, but best of all... RECOMMENDING THEM BOOKS! Real book titles, for the most part! The design of this game is so cozy and lovely. I also love that the characters are super diverse, as are the featured books. I'd love to see what someone can do with this.

EVERYTHING ELSE!

Haunted Mansion (2023) [SAFETY]
Copying and pasting this from past years because it's still true: I expected to enjoy this movie going in, but it surprised me with how emotional it was! It was a lot of fun and made me belly-laugh several times, but it also made me cry with how much it had to say about grief. I'd be really happy with a vid about Ben and/or Travis and how they help each other heal, or I'd be just as happy with a vid celebrating how fun the cast of characters is (including the ghosties!)

The Pitt (TV)
This show <3 I am finishing it up now, and it's just so good. There's a lot you can do with this source, and yet I feel like it'd be so difficult to vid. I'd love a general vid of the whole ensemble; or maybe something about the strength of showing kindness and empathy in difficult situations; maybe something about the difficulties of being understaffed and overwhelmed; or I'd be happy with a character study. My favorite characters are Doctors Mohan, McKay, King, Collins, & Robby, if that helps!

The Traitors (US TV 2023)
This show is so over the top, and [personal profile] kuwdora  and I have had so much fun watching it together. The outfits! The secrets and backstabbing! The twists and turns! So much meme-worthy (and vid-worthy) content. Have fun with this one! Feel free to stick to one season or use all three (possibly four by the time go-live happens?)

Nickelodeon GUTS (TV)
I loved this show so much as a kid and always wanted to be on it (I am not particularly athletic so probably wouldn't have done very well, but tbh most of the kids are pretty terrible at these games, so who knows). I'd love some Aggro Crag action, but a Spill Your Guts focused vid could also be fun. Baby Mike O'Malley had so much energy, and I absolutely had a crush on Mo.
