This is not a GIP.
So, HI, this is why I am not allowed to go to McNally Robinson. Went in with a $40 gift certificate from Christmas (which I wasn't allowing myself to spend until my apartment was clean*) and I came out with three trades and a hardcover. Which, yeah, slightly more than the gift certificate. Putting back books you really, really want to read is kind of painful.
Picked up The Time Traveler's Wife, on recommendation from you all, The Brief History of the Dead, Please Don't Come Back from the Moon, and Little, Big.
I have so much love for bookstores, even though they make my wallet cry and my stomach feel a little funny.
* Does anyone remember the part where I pretty much the opposite of domestic? I wasn't allowed to set up the stereo I got for Christmas until my apartment was clean, either.** My old boom box was getting rather elderly, and I can hardly believe the difference in sound quality. It is amazing.
** If I didn't make deals with myself, I would never get anything done. Ever.

(I'd be interested to hear what you thought of The Brief History of the Dead once you've finished reading--it's one of those books that keeps catching my eye, but I've yet to actually read it.)

The Brief History of the Dead: Fascinating concept, strong writer with a good grasp of characterization, but I just found that for me, there was something missing. I have thoughts as to what that might be, but I don't want to spoil anything. *G* I think it's a personal, stylistic thing -- I'm done reading it, so you're more than welcome to borrow it, if you'd like.

(Speaking of which, did you decide to watch HCL?)
