Convenient Parking
Soon the chain reaction started in the parking lot
Waiting to bleed on to the big streets
That bleed out on the highways and
Off to others cities built to store and sell these rocks
Well aren't you feeling real dirty
Sitting in the parking lot

Convenient parking (is way back, way back)
Convenient parking (is way back, way back)

Waiting to bleed on the big streets
That bleed out on the highways and
Off to other cities built to store and sell these rocks
Well aren't you feeling real dirty
Sitting in your car with nothing
Waiting to bleed on the big streets
That bleed out on the highways and
Off to other cities built to store and sell

There's nothing

Notes: Made for the VividCon 09 "Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations" Challenges vidshow, this is a crossover vid made to a Sun Kil Moon cover of a Modest Mouse song. I was nervous about the buy-in required to make a serious business crossover, but I also figure it's always good to push ones self. There are many, many places where this vid could have gone horribly wrong -- many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] elynross for keeping me on track.

Ooo, nifty! You managed the crossover really well, and that makes for a very interesting vid. :)

Oooh, I really enjoyed this. I know Dexter but not Criminal Minds, so it was really interesting seeing how you spliced things to make the AU believable. I thought the progression of the narrative was really clear and especially loved how you used a lot of Dexter canon - the packing container full of blood and Harry, etc - and also the way you placed the guy from CM as Doakes in the ending scenes. It all blended together really well.

I really loved the editing and pacing. It felt so intuitive and I particularly love how you cut on the vocals/music at 0:28 - 0:30, and the cutting on the vocals at ~0:33, and the gorgeous movement on vocals/cutting at 0:38 - 0:40. Really organic and beautiful.

omg. THIS! i love it.

i don't really watch dexter, but the way you merged those two shows is absolutely stunning. your editing is so smooth & it feels just seamless. very very cool!

& i feel a bit stupid saying this, but um... i so much hope you're gonna make another criminal minds vid! there are not not enough vids in that fandom by far ;)

Count me as one of the people who had no idea this was even from two different sources, so that's definitely a credit to your editing prowess.

I did speak with a fan on Monday morning who mentioned how much she absolutely loved that there was a Criminal Minds vid. Just thought you might like to hear that. :D

This is fantastic - brilliant use of intercuts and framing the Dexter story in terms of a Criminal Minds episode. I would love to watch that episode, actually... (This is the first CM vid I've actually watched, too, and I'm glad it was so awesome. <3 )

As I said in my rec, I'm just in love with the motion and pacing of this. It's absolutely beautiful, and you make the source material work so incredibly well with the song. You're just an amazing editor. *bows*

[identity profile] coldfiredragon.livejournal.com 2009-08-25 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I love both these shows!!!!! Wow, you blended the two so well! Great job! *snuggles Dex*, then imagines Dex and Spencer together... oh god I think my brain just broke! tehee!

coldfiredragon- i hadn't thought of Dex/Spencer until you mentioned it. Now I'm broken too- you're evil!!!

This is fantastic, I read it as absolutely seamless too. Very cool and I think I go watch it a few more times. :)

[identity profile] jujuberry136.livejournal.com 2009-08-26 02:19 am (UTC)(link)
I thought this was really well done- from the beginning of the vid framed like the traditional CM beginning of an investigation to the ending scenes it really felt like all the scenes came from one source. The color and pacing was just AMAZING and your song choice was perfect for the blending of two often haunting shows.

*off to download*

Thanks for sharing with us! I hope you stick around the CM fandom to play- there aren't nearly enough CM vids :D

Oh. wow. I'm entranced by this idea. It's better than a fic, because it's so visual, and the tension feels real.

[identity profile] blacksquirrel.livejournal.com 2009-08-26 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
Very cool! I've always wanted a Dexter/Criminal Minds crossover!

[identity profile] prettyflash.livejournal.com 2009-08-26 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
Oh.my.God. My two favorite shows in one video! ♥ This was so fucking perfect, wooooow. You get 100 extra cool points.

Dexter and CM would be THE BEST crossover ever! Kudos!

[identity profile] rassda.livejournal.com 2009-08-29 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Terrific! Such great job))) Thank you)))I'm impressed)

Such a great idea. The crossover is awesomeness itself.

well aren't you feeling real dirty

[identity profile] kiki-miserychic.livejournal.com 2009-09-10 05:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow, the editing is stellar and the construction is brillant. The crossing over between the two shows is very well done and I buy it completely and utterly. I know a little about Criminal Minds and I watch Dexter, so I can appreciate how difficult it would have been to achieve.

Again, wow.

I find it striking that it's the introduction of the Behavioral Analysis Unit that makes me see Dexter for what they do: a serial killer. Within the confines of Dexter, the show, the character is the one we're with the most. Within the vid, Dexter becomes more of a bad guy than he is in his show. Obviously he murders people, but the vid points to it differently.

Saw this first at VVC, and just thought I'd pop in to say that I was very impressed; you did an excellent job combining the two sources in a clever way to make the narrative of the vid flow properly. :)

Recced you! (http://laurashapiro.dreamwidth.org/283987.html) (:

[identity profile] counteragent.livejournal.com 2009-10-03 11:11 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know either source, but to me you've blended them perfectly. I had no idea where one source started and the other began. It really looked like the same show! Lovely, organic cutting, too.

*gets to all vvc vids late*

This crossover vid is so sweet. I especially like the way you were able to place Morgan in the vid using shots of the back of doakes's head. *thumbs up*

[identity profile] dana-w.livejournal.com 2009-10-22 01:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Absolutely amazing!
I'm a big fan of CM and Dexter. That video is great work! Thank you!)

[identity profile] alexhider.livejournal.com 2009-10-30 06:41 pm (UTC)(link)
AWESOME!!!
just...wow ♥

and, if it's not hard for ya, can you download the song somewhere or show me, where can i get it by myself?

[identity profile] streussal.livejournal.com 2009-11-16 04:56 am (UTC)(link)
Oh wow! Now that I've seen this, I'm a little surprised that I haven't seen and Dexter/CM crossover fics. Lovely job!
