Convenient Parking
Soon the chain reaction started in the parking lot
Waiting to bleed on to the big streets
That bleed out on the highways and
Off to others cities built to store and sell these rocks
Well aren't you feeling real dirty
Sitting in the parking lot

Soon the chain reaction started in the parking lot
Waiting to bleed on to the big streets
That bleed out on the highways and
Off to others cities built to store and sell these rocks
Well aren't you feeling real dirty
Sitting in the parking lot

Convenient parking (is way back, way back)
Convenient parking (is way back, way back)

Waiting to bleed on the big streets
That bleed out on the highways and
Off to other cities built to store and sell these rocks
Well aren't you feeling real dirty
Sitting in your car with nothing
Waiting to bleed on the big streets
That bleed out on the highways and
Off to other cities built to store and sell

There's nothing

Notes: Made for the VividCon 09 "Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations" Challenges vidshow, this is a crossover vid made to a Sun Kil Moon cover of a Modest Mouse song. I was nervous about the buy-in required to make a serious business crossover, but I also figure it's always good to push ones self. There are many, many places where this vid could have gone horribly wrong -- many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] elynross for keeping me on track.

Oooh, I really enjoyed this. I know Dexter but not Criminal Minds, so it was really interesting seeing how you spliced things to make the AU believable. I thought the progression of the narrative was really clear and especially loved how you used a lot of Dexter canon - the packing container full of blood and Harry, etc - and also the way you placed the guy from CM as Doakes in the ending scenes. It all blended together really well.

I really loved the editing and pacing. It felt so intuitive and I particularly love how you cut on the vocals/music at 0:28 - 0:30, and the cutting on the vocals at ~0:33, and the gorgeous movement on vocals/cutting at 0:38 - 0:40. Really organic and beautiful.

Thank you kindly. I was really hoping that I'd managed to make something that fans of either, neither, or both shows could follow -- or at the very least, buy into for the length of the vid.

omg. THIS! i love it.

i don't really watch dexter, but the way you merged those two shows is absolutely stunning. your editing is so smooth & it feels just seamless. very very cool!

& i feel a bit stupid saying this, but um... i so much hope you're gonna make another criminal minds vid! there are not not enough vids in that fandom by far ;)

As for more CM vids -- we shall see. It certainly does have some interesting footage to work with.

Count me as one of the people who had no idea this was even from two different sources, so that's definitely a credit to your editing prowess.

I did speak with a fan on Monday morning who mentioned how much she absolutely loved that there was a Criminal Minds vid. Just thought you might like to hear that. :D

Thank you ever so much -- for your kind words and for letting me know that someone else like it as well.

I was hoping that I'd blended the footage together well enough for people to buy into the vid, but I'd certainly never suspected people would read it was one show. To me that's high praise indeed. Thank you.

This is fantastic - brilliant use of intercuts and framing the Dexter story in terms of a Criminal Minds episode. I would love to watch that episode, actually... (This is the first CM vid I've actually watched, too, and I'm glad it was so awesome. <3 )

As I said in my rec, I'm just in love with the motion and pacing of this. It's absolutely beautiful, and you make the source material work so incredibly well with the song. You're just an amazing editor. *bows*

I thought this was really well done- from the beginning of the vid framed like the traditional CM beginning of an investigation to the ending scenes it really felt like all the scenes came from one source. The color and pacing was just AMAZING and your song choice was perfect for the blending of two often haunting shows.

*off to download*

Thanks for sharing with us! I hope you stick around the CM fandom to play- there aren't nearly enough CM vids :D

Wow, the editing is stellar and the construction is brillant. The crossing over between the two shows is very well done and I buy it completely and utterly. I know a little about Criminal Minds and I watch Dexter, so I can appreciate how difficult it would have been to achieve.

Again, wow.

I find it striking that it's the introduction of the Behavioral Analysis Unit that makes me see Dexter for what they do: a serial killer. Within the confines of Dexter, the show, the character is the one we're with the most. Within the vid, Dexter becomes more of a bad guy than he is in his show. Obviously he murders people, but the vid points to it differently.

Thank you ever so much. The intersection of the two shows is something that's been tickling at the back of my mind for a while -- they're opposite sides to the same coin in many ways, so I'm so glad that I could make them meet for you.

The song is by Sun Kil Moon, from their album Tiny Cities, which is entirely composed of Modest Mouse covers. Hope that helps!
