Title: Breakfast is the Most Important Meal
Author: [livejournal.com profile] cherryice
Fandom and Pairing: Avengers, Steve/Tony
Notes: I blame [livejournal.com profile] silverakira and [livejournal.com profile] kuwdora for encouraging me when I said that Tony and Emma should be BFFs, then capslocking with me. I do however, thank them for their patience! Especially [livejournal.com profile] silverakira, as she was excellent enough to beta even after this got a little away on me. Contains references to PTSD and a canonical suicide attempt by a minor character.
Wordcount: 11,100
Summary: In which Steve is kind of a fossil but his squishy parts and feelings are still intact, Bruce hates blueberries, there's a mysterious banging coming from Tony's lab in the basement, and Emma Frost is not actually a stripper.

Also at the AO3.

Title: The Beat and the Pulse
Author: [livejournal.com profile] cherryice
Fandom: Power Play <3<3<3<3
Pairing: Colleen Blessed/Brett Parker
Notes: For [livejournal.com profile] atatteredrose in Yuletide 2011!
So, apparently I forgot to also post this! This is the story that was basically jumping up and down and waving its arms around and hollering that I wrote it, as it is A) Power Play, B) a song title from a Canadian indie band in high rotation on CBC Radio 3, and C) POWER PLAY. Which is the show of my heart. And a shows whose fannish works I have now created 2/5ths of.

Colleen's life is easier without Brett Parker. (Easier isn't everything.)

Title: So we all are growing young
Author: [livejournal.com profile] cherryice
Fandom: Adventure Time
Pairing: Marceline/Princess Bubblegum
Notes: Written for [livejournal.com profile] odyle for Yuletide 2011. Many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] sprat for beta, despite not having any idea what I was writing about.

Marceline may be a thousand years old, but Princess Bubblegum has been eighteen for a very long time.

I am super behind on things! Pretend that this post is from before the big Yuletide reveal! And that there is a reason to use this many exclamation points!

I got two awesome stories this year!

Something in the Guns [The Walking Dead], which is a lovely character study of Andrea and Dale post 2x05;

Ms. Frizzle and the Van School for Gifted Boys [The Magic School Bus, Inception, Calvin and Hobbes, Torchwood/Doctor Who, BSG, Fringe], in which there is a multi-fandom field trip to the Large Hadron Collider. I don't think I need to tell you how happy that makes me!

I didn't bother doing the 'guess what I wrote!' thing this year, because one of the stories I wrote was in a fandom I have never mentioned (because that is how I roll, and the first sign of a fandom from me is often 'Hey, look, here's a vid in a thing that I enjoy!'), and other was pretty much jumping up and down and hollering about how I wrote it.

In other year-end thingies I am getting to after the year ends:

Vidding Meme!

February: L.E.S. Artistes [Terminator Movies, Sarah Connor, Festivids pinch hit]
August: Land's End [Doctor Who, River Song]
Gotta Boyfriend? [Scott Pilgrim vs the World]
We Rule the World [My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic]

Babbling and bobbling. )

There was another meme going around a while back where you could ask writers or vidders about any of their choices! I don't remember exactly how it went, but something about if you had choices at song/clip/word choice or characterization or intent, you could ask! In the off chance, you are interested, ask away! If you ask about anything I wrote in high school, however, my answer will likely be along the lines of "Well, at that point, I also thought it was a good idea to name myself after a snow cone/popsicle/etc."

This is a much belated Yuletide post! I thought I made one earlier, but apparently that was something that I imagined.

I received two most fabulous gift-fics: Mumbly, in which Olive Snook, at her very best, finds out. The narrative voice could have been ripped from an episode that should have been. I also received Steady as She Goes, which is 1) Power Play -- the only piece of Power Play fic to ever exist, and it is 2) an absolutely perfect Colleen piece.

As for myself, I wrote P.C. Hodgell's Chronicles of the Kencyrath for [livejournal.com profile] teaotter.

Read it at the archive, here, after the cut.

Warnings: Mention of canon abuse.
Thanks to: [livejournal.com profile] sprat, for awesome beta and talking me down from my stabby-place.

Title: Life in a Glass House
Fandom: Entourage
Warnings: R for language.
Notes: Written for [livejournal.com profile] black_eyedgirl in Yuletide 2008. It was my first attempt at this fandom as well, but it's a bit farther outside my usual, irregular fannish circles. It has been fun, if rather nerve-wracking.

Eric is too young to be having a midlife crisis.

It's the same fucking thing every time.

I had the chance to write two pieces this year, both in fandoms I'd never gotten a crack at before. Those two posts are to follow.

I'm afraid I failed to compile a recs list before author names went live, but I really want to take a chance to mention the absolutely amazing stories I received.

This year, my request was in the 'Three remaining unfilled requests' list up until the last minute. I think this means I was somewhat troublesome for the fantastic organizers, for which I am sorry. On a selfish level, however, I have no problem with this whatsoever: it means I got four absolutely amazing stories. Three were Chronicles of the Kencyrath: That Which Preserves, a lush piece with gorgeous undertones, in which Kindrie contemplates the mercy of murder; the warm A Quiet Place, in which Kindrie finally gets a much-deserved moment of peace (<33); and Sins of the Fathers, a short, sharp, and chilling bit of reflection. I also received a Mambo Italiano piece, You Mixed Up Siciliano, which is a fabulous post-movie piece with a Nino who's finally come to terms with himself reaching out to the one friend who'd understand.

Hurrah for Yuletide!

A very happy (and similarly, very belated birthday) to two of my most favourite people on the internet -- [livejournal.com profile] thefourthvine and [livejournal.com profile] tellitslant!

Things which are awesome: for reasons that don't need exploring at this juncture, I obtained funding for a laptop, and am now the proud owner of a Toshiba M750 tablet! I can write on the screen! I have never owned a PC before, though, so am curious as to what applications my more experienced friends think are necessary. Now, this is going to be a school machine -- I'm planning on keeping all my media on my desktop computer, so I don't need recommendations for vidding software or anything of the like. Neat or useful program recommendations would be awesome, as well as resources. If anyone uses a good reference/paper database program, I would love to hear it. Unfortunately, Papers (which is awesome), only has a Mac version.

And, somewhat belatedly:

Dearest Yuletide Author;

You are most decidedly made of awesome. )

In other news, my paid LJ time is about to expire, so I am all a-twitter to find out which five LJ icons I shall be left with. Maybe LJ will look deep into my soul to decide.

I am looking back over my site, and it occurs to me that I really need to trim out some of the dead weight. I'm looking at some of the fic between my fingers, actually, what with the need to cover my face in shame.

It's rather interesting, actually, to see how my writing has evolved. I started writing fic when I was 15 (15! Gosh, I'm old now.) Some of my ideas were not entirely awful, aside from lack of logic, and I can see places where my writing style was beginning to develop. I almost want to go back, rip them to pieces, and try to insert a lower level of suck. I had no concept of pacing, and for some reason felt the need to describe everything that everyone did and every step they took. Oh, god, the prose. The horrible, awful, clunky prose, and my need to spell out everyone's accents phonetically.

I was so very proud. *dies*

SO MUCH BADNESS. I am cutting this to spare your brains. )

The stream of consciousness ones are the worst, though. No plot, just really, really emo reflection. People, seriously. I write fic where Emma Frost CUTS HERSELF. I had blocked this from my mind completely, to hold onto some shred of self-respect.

Monologues were never my friend, m'kay? )

Why on earth did this stuff seem to resonate with so many people, OMG?

Forgive me, please, for inflicting this stuff on the internet in the first place?

I think that today is a day where we should all share our shame.
