Because if there were an award for procrastinating, I'd win it. If I got around to entering...

The 2005 Cherry writing roundup and blathering. Thirteen stories, which I do believe makes it my most productive year ever. Yes, I know how sad that is.

So, this was the year of Due South, apparently. They taught me it was possible to get more than three comments per story, something that's still a jawdrop sometimes. Anywho...

Due South: Passed Me By (Fraser, gen, January), Like Some Strange Shadow (RK/F, but I tend to consider it more a RK piece, February), Shells (Nothing But Blue Skies), (F, RK/F, March), Halo (RK, RK/S, April), Aphelion (RK, RK/F, character death, June), Bury It With You (RK/RV, RK/F, RV/S, but I consider it a RK/S friendship piece, really, for [livejournal.com profile] brooklinegirl June), Leaving Town (RK/F, August), Breathe (Don't Forget To) (RK, RK/F, RK/S, September)

Ocean's 11: Buy Now, Pay Later (Rusty/Tess, Rusty/Danny, Danny/Tess, May)

Firefly: Frame By Frame (Kaylee, Doctor Who/Firefly, September)

Doctor Who: Everyone You Know (Jack Harkness, November), Frame By Frame (Kaylee, Doctor Who/Firefly, September)

SGA: We Came To Learn The Sea (Ford, November), Running Blind (JS/RM, September)

Mysterious Ways: Perigee (Miranda, Declan/Miranda, last year's [livejournal.com profile] yuletide)

And, okay, the fic meme I stole from [livejournal.com profile] brooklinegirl and modified somewhat because it had as many questions as I have stories I've written.

My favorite story of this year: Like Some Strange Shadow, probably. Looking at it now, some of the phrasing is clumsy and there are things I'd change, but I have this fondness for it.

My best story this year: Halo or We Came To Learn The Sea. Both stories are short, but I think that's probably why I'm most proud of them. In both, I think I managed to say everything I wanted to about the characters and still be somewhat lyrical about it. To me, Halo is Ray, and WCTLTS is Ford. I think WCTLTS flows particularly well.

Story most underappreciated by the universe, in my opinion: Halo. We all know I'm not good with notes or summaries, and it had RK/S as the only pairing listed. I'm rather proud of it still, though.

Most fun story: Everyone You Know, because of the world building I got to do, and because I'd been looking for an excuse to write Jack.

Most sexy story: Um. If you've read this far, I'm going to assume you've read my work, and know that 'sexy' is not something I do. At least, not well. Maybe that'll be my goal for the new year. I'll write something with sexual tension. If forced to it -- Buy Now, Pay Later. Maybe. Probably not.

Story with the single sexiest moment: Were we not paying attention? Um, possibly Breathe (Don't Forget To) for this: Lights pierce the room. Red and yellow, sweeping across the dance floor and up the walls of the club. Husker Du are playing on-stage, Bob Mould riding the microphone. He and Stella are dancing in the dark and the heat and the second-hand smoke. Stella is laughing and more than a little drunk; her hands on his hips and fingertips worked up beneath his shirt, brushing across his skin.

or this: Everything is lit with gold, hum of formal conversation willing the spaces between the notes of the string quartet. Jewels sparkle at throats, women in bright dresses and men in black tuxes in vivid contrast. In the middle of the room, Teyla and Ford are dancing; all caramel and mocha and grace.
, from Running Blind. It has nothing to do with the rest of the story, nothing at all, (and no one else but me finds that sexy) but it is an image that won't leave my mind.

Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters: I think most of my Due South stories this year have solidified parts of Ray's past that I hold as my own personal canon. This is perhaps why I've been having trouble with the fandom lately -- I feel almost as if I've said what I have to say. I hope this is a passing phase.

Hardest story to write, Biggest Disappointment, and Most Unintentionally Telling Story: Running Blind. I knew very little canon, I was rushed, it was written in one day and unbeta'd. It unintentionally told these things, and it makes me want to put my head down and cry. Somehow, it has one of the largest responses this year.

Biggest Surprise: We Came To Learn The Sea, because I didn't intent to write it. It just sort of spilled from my fingers.
