So my brother just about burned down our fucking farm.
Shooting matches from a pellet gun. We're in the middle of a drought worse than any seen since before the Dirty Thirties, there's a fire ban over the entire bloody province, and he's shooting matches from a pellet gun. Because he thinks that it's cool to watch the flames.
I made him stop, because I have to drive him to soccer practice. I would have anyways, as soon as I found out.
We get back, about half of the yard is gone.
My sister was home alone. After awhile, she notices a large section of fire outside her window. So she calls dad. Dad is out on the tractor. He kills it trying to get back, and has to run across a number of fields.
We were lucky. My uncle was on his way over to our place for something else. Our elderly neighbor was home. We don't have a fire brigade, per say. There are a couple of people in town, and an engine or two, but by the time they would have gotten out to our place... My sister didn't even call them.
If the wind hadn't died down, there would have been nothing that they could have done. The entire farm would have gone up. Depending on the direction of the wind, it would have spread, hit the natural prairie or Ducks Unlimited Land, and taken out quite a few more farms.
It would have been near impossible to stop.
Damn right I'm freaked out.
