I've never made any bones about my agnosticism. While religious fundamentalism is a foreign and almost impenetrable concept to me, I find a certain fascination in the construction and interplay of various world systems of belief.

My general rule is thus:

I respect your religious convictions until the moment you start using your belief as an excuse for ignorance. As soon as you start hurting people, discriminating against a group for the amount of melanin accumulated in their integument, what side of their body cavity their reproductive organs -- or the reproductive organs of the people they love -- are on, or any one of a hundred other equally silly reason, you lose me.

Members of a fundamentalist American church group planning to stage a protest at the funeral for a Winnipeg man brutally killed on a Greyhound bus have managed to enter Canada, a spokeswoman told CBC News on Friday.
...
The group intends to picket the funeral of 22-year-old Tim McLean to tell Canadians his slaying on July 30 was God's response to Canadian policies enabling abortion, homosexuality and divorce and remarriage.
