Today was fun. And, in theory, we're all in school, but the school is closed off by the nice men in the yellow containment suits, so that's not really happening.

Confused? Concerned? Maybe I should start at the beginning... There was a chemical spill in the lab.

Okay, so that's not really the beginning...

First period, the grade 11s were cleaning out the lab, because there were a bunch of outdated chemicals from around (I kid you not, best before 1965. Of course, I didn't know all of this at the time, but I talked to a couple of the grade 11s).

So they piled these all together on the floor. Which was not the best plan, but I digress. The teacher, who, by the way, is new this year, stepped over them. Or attempted to, at the least. She didn't quite make it. A bottle crusted with crystals broke and mixed with some miscellaneous powders and immediately started to smoke.

First they just cleared the lab. Then they cleared that entire end of the school and sent all of the highschool students to the elementary end, with three classes attempting to squish into the library. After several urgent sounding announcements and teachers running around and whispering, they got us to grab our stuff and sent us outside.

Where were stayed until they decided to move us down to the curling rink (iceless at this time of year, of course). So we hung around in the rink until they'd called all of the parents, because they aren't allowed to send kids home when their parents don't know they're coming, as a result of a fuss made over the time we were sent home due to the ice storm.

... Oh yes. Today. They called in the buses. We're lucky, because our bus driver works in town during the day, so it wasn't a long wait.

I kind of feel sorry for the poor teacher. I mean... Her third day of a new job, she gets Environment Canada called in, the school evacuated for the first time in its history, and a messy hole eaten in the floor, which is in theory still growing...
