So, in recent news...
I have been informed that a university would like me to attend.
I was accepted into Queen's today.
Heee!
(And, no, I did not bounce around making happy noises when I got the letter. No way, no how.)
The downside: U of S has offered me enough to cover first year books/tuition there. Queen's has offered me slightly less than a third of the same amount, but they do have a work-study program.
Waiting hear from U of T. Technically haven't been accepted into U of S yet.
And now the choppy update on things Cherry-ish:
Grad was -- Dude, I *graduated.* I mean, I'm not done class until the end of June, but still-- I don't think any of us have ever looked that hot. My mom got a kick out me in a dress. In a dress, with fancy hair, actually wearing makeup, getting into the truck to head into town with my sports sandals and jean jackets. We're not a touchy group, my class. We don't hug and we don't kiss, we don't use each other as pillows or lead each other around by the hand, but we couldn't stop hugging each other. And, geez, I still feel so incredibly loved.
The party was a blast, even if my brother did drink my alcohol. Those of use of the female persuasion managed to keep our hair up by sleeping on our faces, as we don't do the dressy thing very often. It was just handing around with music blaring and fire roaring, drinks in hand and hamburgers, but it was something special. We didn't hire a DJ, but rented speakers, because they never play what we want them to, anyway. Kick-ass music, friends who love you, tire-rim fires and army tents.
Band trip was fun, even if I did end up leaving my jacket in Edmonton. We sacrificed quality of festival for a chance to travel, and performed at schools along the way. It seems I have somehow sharpened my oboe reed, and it's been cutting my tongue. Explains why my tongue has been hurting lately. (Yes, I am observant.) We haven't played as well as we did that night (as a group) in at least a year. I tried all the slides awhile at WestEd, as we have nothing of the sort around these parts. It was very hard not to ask out bus driver to present to us his credentials bearing the endorsement for a vehicle the side of the bus, because the man could not drive. Not to mention being a jerk. Among other things, he wrecked a curb. I guess it just jumped out in front of him.
And I just have to say: You know you're from a small town when you take a mini-field trip to Ikea.
We changed the trip so that we could still go to today's outdoor meet. By clever planning on my part, I was able to arrange a place to stay so that I got a full three hours sleep, instead of the two caught by other musician-athletes with events first thing.
Our outdoor meet -- it's a big thing. We take our entire school out, and it's always a blast. It would have been nice if the weather hadn't been so wretched. Cold and windy. Barely above freezing and winds up to 75km/hr, coming at an angle so that the last stretch of the track and the pits were running straight into it, it caught the discuss at an angle, and javelins were thrown straight against it. It resulted in much huddling in the protective shade of our banner, crouched in groups in the bleachers beneath spare blankets as we hollered encouragement to our friends.
Our school took the trophy, easily. Third year running. I placed fifth in all four of my events (we're only allowed four), which isn't too shabby when you consider it's a lot of school points, and my age category this year was essentially two shoved together. I was in all three divisions this year, though I'm still trying to figure out how I ended up running. I am not a runner. Yet, I ran, as well as throwing and jumping. Running is not a thing that I do well.
--Yeah, that's about that. Trying to piece together something to write, as I really should. Attempting to find a time to get more sleep, as I've been working on four or five hours a night for a good three weeks at the least, and rather busy in the mean time.
If it takes three people to wake you up, that's a bad sign, right?

Dude. June 6? Lucky. We're done school at the end of June. We have it early because of farming, and so that the grads through the school division are each a different weekend.

We're being rather optomistic here, aren't we? ::Coughs:: ::Knock on wood::
The pics should be sometime after next Friday. The photographer the school had in said they should be back some time around then.

Date: 2003-05-19 09:04 pm (UTC)Dude. I'm sorry. I really thought I mentioned my trip in my journal. But then, I also thought I mentioned it when I was going out east. When you make the same mistake three times...
Congrats on the grad and on Queens! :D
::Grins:: Thank you.
Ikea kicks ass. ;)
It was just about the coolest store I've ever been in. I could live there very easily. I could live in a new room every night for a month.
Living in Ikea. How sweet would that be?
