You and I and me and you
There are a few of those "getting to know you" memes floating around at the moment, and I've realized something.
I know very little about a number of you. A rather larger number of you than I'd like, as there's been a bit of growth in my friendslist lately.
So, tell me about yourselves. Please. I really want to know. What do you do, where do you live, which is your favourite band? Tell me about your first dog or how you got here or why you friended my journal.
Tell me a little about yourselves, please. If you have any questions, I'm more than willing to answer them myself.

I read this and immediately thought of Bilbo's birthday speech in Fellowship of the Ring.
Let's see, about me... I first friended you because I loved your x-men fic, but I haven't been interested in x-men for a good long while, and then I friended you on my fandom journal because you are nifty cool and I'm just getting into Due South. Other stuff about me: I'm eighteen, I hail from Utah (no I'm not mormon), I still love comics though I've abandoned Marvel, and recently I have fallen deeply, deeply in love with both Everwood and Veronica Mars. Which kind of sucks for me, because Everwood seems to be a mostly dead fandom and Veronica Mars seems to be dominated by teeny-bopper idiots.
my aim name is zeeleepenguin, if you ever feel like chatting. :)

Also, go Due South!
I've heard good things about VMars, and am thinking of checking it out. I haven't turned on my tv for almost two months. I'm not joking.
I'm on AIM as Ayana Lily, but we've already gotten that sorted out. *G*

I do art and creative stuff to live.
I live in Marietta, GA but I'm from NY.
My favourite band changes. Right now I don't have a favourite band. Just favourite songs.
My first dog was one of those funky mixed breeds before they were cool. Half schnauzer, half-poodle = schnoodle. Bloody intelligent but destructive and a little spiteful. We called him Mandingo because the family was in a "yay, Africa rules!" mode at the time, and called him Dingo for short because he was crazy.
I friended you because I know you from Subreality and you're cool people.
And because you believe, like me, that if you have something nice to say, you should say it.

Oooh, recommend me something, please? I snagged that "Tired of Being Sorry" one you put up a little while ago, and quite liked it.
Also, I think the world would be a much better place if we all took the time to be a little nicer to each other. *G*

My favorite singer is Thea Gilmore- she is absolutely amazing and I will be seeing her in concert at the end of the month. Also, Richard Thompson is a guitar god who writes amazing songs. I recently sent a friend of mine (who I have never met) two mixes which she loves. :) If you would like, I'd be happy to send mixes to you as well.
Um...I'm a science fiction geek (I work at a science fiction bookstore on Saturdays) and I love going to SF conventions- though not the media ones. My favorite authors are Emma Bull & Peter S. Beagle. I recommend books to people even when I'm not at the bookstore. My favorite tv show of all time is Farscape.
I have long red hair which was short for many years- it made me look like a tweleve-year-old elf so I grew it out. Now I look like a fifteen-year-old elf. I'm 27. I have three wonderful younger siblings. I grew up in Lexington, MA. I live in Somerville, which is close to Boston and one of the most densely populated cities in the US- it seems that everyone I know lives here. People from this area often don't move away- it's full of geeks and such. It's a very nice place to live- I have three housemates who I get along with. My landlady lives below us and has a magnificent garden. There is a gape vine growing along the fence.
I'm left handed. My room is almost always messy, but I enjoy helping my friends clean their houses. I write strange stories set in Boston, but I've been too stressed to write lately.
I 'met' you through ds fandom. Your stories are excellent so I friended you.
Um...I talk a lot. Which I'm sure you'd never guess.

2. I had my hair about an inch and a half long for a few years, and my driver's license photo is from the awkward growing out stage. It doesn't even look like me. (I'm also wearing glasses.)
3. I, also, tend to cary on. At great length.
4. Aww, thank you. I'm always surprised when people like my writing.
5. If you would like, I'd be happy to send mixes to you as well. Oooh. I'd love to trade you a few mixes. If you let me know what genres you love/hate/tolerate, I could key it a bit more specifically.

Right now I live in the French Quarter of New Orleans, Louisiana. I'm finishing my biology degree at the state university here on the G.I. Bill. After I got out of the U.S. Air Force in 2001, I worked at an Antarctic research station (McMurdo Station) until I decided to go back to school last year. I love living in New Orleans but I'll be moving on when school is done, because I have a very short attention span and I need to keep seeing new places. :-) I'm going back to Antarctica to work at South Pole Station for a year after I graduate. Gotta pay off those pesky student loans.
And because I'm so addicted to Livejournal and fanfiction, I am also very very grateful that even South Pole has Internet access. I'll be reading you religiously from there.

I've always wanted to see New Orleans. Is it as overwhelming as people say?
Funny factoid: I'm actually doing a dual degree program, and the non-engineering one is in biology. Woot!

New Orleans can be overwhelming, yeah. Since most people come here and spend the whole time drunk out of their minds, it can lead to some unpleasant scenes, and there is a significant population of hustlers and crackheads who like to bother the tourists for money. But the city is so easy to love, too. Its history is like no other city in the States. The food and the music are out of this world. I will miss it when I move away.
And cheers to your dual degree program! God, such a lot of work. Hang in there. *One* degree is hard enough for me. ;-)

I friended you because my love for dS has renewed (from c.1995 when on visits home my father would make me watch "this weird show with a wolf") and become ficcish. You were one of about five writers
Me, I am on the run from Buffy fandom (sort of. Still write in it a lot, but the fandom itself has inspired massive flight). I also love Firefly to death. I am going to school in Toronto. You already found I love Power Play (actually, finding out about Pinsent's role on dS was what made me *listen* to Di and check out the series). I am terribly hot at the moment, moreso after having made gorram *oatmeal* for the gf. Um. I'm also currently wondering if RPF about Rick Mercer would be RPS or what.
*wanders away*

Awww. You're both too kind.
Also, Firefly=love.
You're at the U of T? What are you studying? I thought of going there for the industrial engineering program, but there was an incident with my father and my transcripts.
Power Play fic SO needs to be written. That's like, my one true show. I despair of it ever making it to DVD, though.

I live in Connecticut, and am a sports copy editor and page designer for a large newspaper. I grew up in the South, though (Richmond, Va.) so I'm an odd blend of Rebel and Yankee. I figure after almost seven years of living up here, I'm claiming Switzerland so I don't get caught on the Civil War fallout.
My favorite band of all time is actually R.E.M., mostly because their music has been the backdrop to pretty much my entire life. ;) My first dog's name was Pepsi, but really that was my dad's dog, so my first pet was a cat named Joy. I got her when I was 6 and she lived to be 18. A pretty good run, really! No pets at the moment, but I plan on moving in the next few months and want to get a cat from a shelter once I do - I don't want to traumatize the poor thing by moving it twice.
I love to travel, and plan to do more of it before I get married and possibly have kids, not that either is eminent. I'm terrified of change and yet am constantly restless - not an easy thing to reconcile. My lifelong goal, as it seems to be for so many people, is to be a published novelist. We'll see how that goes. ;)

Well, I'm grateful you've stuck around despite the recent lack of X-Men fanfic. I try not to be too terribly boring on a regular basis. *G*

Oooh, shelters are the way to go. I've always been more of a dog girl, but with the amount of time I spend at school, I couldn't really look after one. I wish I wasn't allergic to cats.

Oooh, I want to do that, as well. Publish a novel. It's not coming along at the best clip ever.

2. Abilene, Texas.
3. The Beatles, rivaled by the Kinks and the Who.
4. My first dog was Scamp, a rather large and friendly dog, whom we had to leave in 1963.
5. You came up to me in a PM and said you liked my X-Men Christmas story.
