I. Hate. Red tape.

Why is it that disciplines are structured specifically to prevent other students from taking their courses? Or courses outside of their scope? Departments don't like it when you mash two programs together.

Damn them, and their little dog too.

This rage session has been partially brought to you by the fact that the enviro chem course is only offered as a night class every other year -- one of them being this year, at the same time as I have my night bio class that I'm only in because through no fault of my own, the registration system locked me out. Locked me out and took almost two weeks to fix, in which time all day sections filled up. I was trying to avoid a night class in my last year.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled programing.

So. Much. Hate.

Actually, some of the current anger is directed towards a bit of bad advice from my first year, which has made my upper year engineering electives difficult to find, due to a prereq snorfle.

It's mainly the bio department I'm avoiding taking an axe to at the moment, though.

*shares your pain*

Working in academic administration, and spending a lot of time negotiating with the Registrar, the faculty, Central Admin, et al., has reinforced the salient lesson I learned as a student: screw the rhetoric, universities put students' educational experience (to say nothing of their ability to lead even semi-sane lives) way, WAY down on their list of priorities. My sympathies on your scheduling hassles, and I hope you're able to wangle a seat somehow in a day section of bio.

I want to believe in everyone's best intentions, I really do. It's just getting harder and harder. My discipline of engineering is small (think first name basis with the profs) has done their best, but I got some baaaaad information from the dean's office in my first year that has made getting into most engineering electives all but impossible. The bio department just doesn't seem to have a clue.

I likely can't switch bio sections at this point -- it's a full year class and I was told that even though they know that about 10% of students will drop the class, they wouldn't give me a limit override. I'd just really like to get both degrees done in five years.

Err. It's quite possible I overshare. I'm not really full of rage, I swear.
