Done done done done done.

I just had four finals in four days, but I am done.

Or, okay, I'm done for the next week, because I'm taking 14cu this summer -- survey camp, digital art, and animal physiology. Which should actually be cool, because I'm looking forward to taking those courses, unlike every engineering class ever.

Today's final, the power went out with half an hour left to go. We were writing in a classroom in the engineering building. One thing you have to understand about the engineering building -- it has no windows. NONE. It was absolutely pitch black for about three minutes until the emergency generators came on in the halls, and we had to move the final to the library because it has a skylight, and the power was down for about half an hour.

Reflections upon finals various:

  • Campus-wide power outages will happen at the worst of times.

  • It is one thing to not provide formulas, even for hydrogeology, which has about seventeen million different ones. It is another to tell the class that all formulas will be provided, and then only give us about half.

  • If you think you wrote us a two hour exam, thank you. However, if every single student is still writing at the end of the three hours, your stopping us to say that it's not as hard as we're making it, and that it's actually really quite easy, is not helping. It is making us hate ourselves a little more.

  • Please turn your cellphone of during exams.

  • If you forgot to turn your cell phone off, and it rings, please turn it off so that when that person calls you back, it will not disrupt us again.

  • For the love of god, if your cell phone goes off during an exam, do not answer it.

  • If you are adjudicating an exam and the girl next to me answers her cell phone, please, please, please take it away from her. Or someone (maybe me, maybe someone else, I can't say) is going to throw a shoe at her at her HEAD.

I remember one year at college we had fucking animal rights assholes yelling about something they were doing to monkeys in one of the labs in the school.

And I'm all for not poking monkeys in the eye and everything, but I also kinda like having medicine and NOT MAKING ME HATE YOU BY HAVING YOUR PROTESTS DURING EXAMS OUTSIDE MY FUCKING CLASSROOM WINDOW.

It made me want to kick a bunny, just out of spite.

See, I am all for people having the right to protest, but I am also all for their having some common sense. By running around on campus during FINALS, they are destroying both their face and footing, raising all sorts of credibility issues. Someone out there obviously should have taken some sort of communications course. I'm just saying.

It made me want to kick a bunny, just out of spite.

I have been attacked without provocation by those little fuckers more than once, so I'm not terribly fond of them, but they are just about the softest, warmest, snuggly little bags of love sometimes too.

*laughs* Australian, remember? My views on rabbits generally aren't politically correct anywhere outside of here or New Zealand.

I would be surprised if there was an intoductory bio text that didn't mention Australia and rabbits somewhere in the diversity/ecology section. I'm just saying.

Fair enough. It is, however, why my views on rabbits are somewhat ...extreme. Although, my views on feral cats/dogs, brunbies, wild pigs, buffalo, toads and camels are very, very similar.

Second semester senior year, the power went out on the last night before all finals were due. It was actually kind of awesome, because they gave us all a little bit more time to get stuff done. But it was alos sort of panic-causing. And sort of funny.

*kicks your professor in the head*

You mean you didn't kill rude, stupid, thoughtless cell phone chick with your shoe?

Eeep. Well, at least you got extra time.

You mean you didn't kill rude, stupid, thoughtless cell phone chick with your shoe?

Well, no, but largely because I think they might have kicked me out of the exam, and I would have had to use a supplemental. I'm afraid I'm just not selfless enough to take one of THOSE for the team. *G*

But you might have gotten away with lynching her *after* you get out of the exam hall.

Dude, I wouldn't have gotten away with that in year 7. How did that moron get this far through an engineering degree?

We were actually writing with a few other classes in one of the gyms, and I'm pretty sure she was in arts and science. Good old arts and science. *G*

She answered her cell phone during a final? Well, that's right there next to using Wikipedia as a resource.

Oh, campus technology hijinks. Last spring, my uni's servers crashed at midterms. The servers that contained e-mail and the library research databases.

I've never used Wikipedia as a resource. Nope, nuh-uh, never.

Oh, ouch. That has to be pretty much the epitome of suck, right there.

My sanity is at least partially intact. I stacked up all of the notes I had to go through, just for my last four exams, notes and solutions and textbooks and printouts, and it came up PAST MY KNEE. It was insane.

Hey, are you feeling any better? I was wondering if you wanted to grab coffee or sushi or something next week, so I could pick up those disks and acquire you some BSG?

Eeep, that sounds brutal. But partially intact sanity means you WIN in that situation, I think. And your summer does sound much pleasanter in comparison. *g*

I'm feeling mostly better, thanks, so yeah--next week sounds great. I'm off Tuesday and Wednesday and work until 6 the rest of the days. When are you free?

I am working evenings this week, and and afternoon/evening on Wednesday. Tuesday, then? 2-ish, Fusions?

I don't think I have any of your media at the moment, but if you'd like I could bring the first two eps of the second series of Who. Are you looking for some reading material at the moment? I can't remember if it was you I promised Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy to or not.

Sure--Fusions at 2 on Tuesday sounds good. :)

I'd love the first two eps of the second series of Dr. Who, but I think it must have been somebody else asking to borrow Hitchhiker's, because I own that one already. Thanks, though!

I'm returning BSG, Dr. Who, DLM S2, Crash and the book you let me borrow, whose title escapes me--right?

Do I have anything you'd like to see or read (or listen to)? Do you watch Lost? I just dl'd the first half of the second season for one of my sisters--it would be no trouble to burn you a copy as well.

Err -- I'm afraid you're only actually getting the first ep, because it turns out I only have one CDR left. Sorry. I'll bring the second/however many have aired since then/TCI next time.

No, you were Good Omens, were you not? I know I promised you at least one more novel.

I'm returning BSG, Dr. Who, DLM S2, Crash and the book you let me borrow, whose title escapes me--right?

I believe that to be correct.

I'm afraid I gave up on Lost part way through the first season. *G* But -- and totally forget it if it's in any way inconvenient -- if you had season 4 of Family Guy as well? I would love to see that. If you don't, or it's inconvenient, like I said, don't worry.

Just so you know, though? I have never been known to say 'no' to new music. *G*

You'll be fine. If it's anything like the ones I took in first year, you'll be asked to produce a folio showing a series of prepatory and exploratory works leading to a range of final, polished pieces, with analysis and exploration of what you did along the way.

*grins* The best advice I can give you would probably be not to complete one of the final pieces in the three hours before its due the morning after you move house. Seriously, that was a crap painting. ;)

Oh dear. Well, you should be fine. I think the biggest thing that trips people up is looking at art classes and going "Art! That's the bludge option. I won't have to do any work at all!" when the courses are actually probably the highest workload you can get in the humanities. Seriously, first year art had more work than bloody Intermediate Latin did. So it is going to take work.

It might be worth spending this week reading a couple of books on colour theory, design and possibly semiotics in art if you haven't already? I'm not sure where your technical background's at with art.

I'm all curious. Could I have a look at the course information?
