I am pretty sure I fail at life.

Last night, I decided I was going to make hard boiled eggs. No way that even I could screw that up, right?

Wrong. I looked in the pot and the insides of the eggs had all become the outsides. It looked like egg drop soup, only without the 'soup' part. "Oh, well," I console myself. "At least I am acceptable at dealing with computers."

Wrong. I was setting up my fancy new wireless router, and I have managed to lock myself out of the network. I do not know how this happened, because I am entering the key I had set up for the WEP access, and I have tried every other password associated with the router, and it errors out on network connection. every. time. WTF, Trendnet, WTF. You could at least provide instructions for setting things up on on Mac, instead of being all "Oh, yeah, the CD doesn't work. Just mess around with the browser, and you'll get there."

*Fails!*

Aw, you're totally acceptable at dealing with computers! It's just that they have that vendetta against you. *g*

Have you tried switching "wep password" to "40/128 bit hex" in the little dialogue next to the box where you enter your password? If that doesn't work, make sure mac address filtering is turned off in the router's config sw. If that still doesn't work, email me.

Switching to 40/128 logs me on and gives me all of the wireless bars. However, it still won't let me access the internet.

And computers totally do hate me. My printer broke. Again. This is something like four in five months. The guy who works at Staples thinks I'm an idiot.

Nahhh, you don't fail at life.

I've been cooking since I was 10 or 11 and even I have accidentally made the egg drop soup without the flavoring and broth when boiling eggs a time or two.

It's a relief to hear it's not just me, then. Yay!

IMO, it's Trendnet that failed, most certainly not you.

Hard-boiled eggs are harder (er, sorry, but they are) than they would appear to be - and this is coming from a relatively experienced cook. I could never get them right until I began to follow some weirdly counterintuitive but viable advice:
  • Put eggs in saucepan.
  • Pour enough water in there to cover them completely.
  • Take them out.
  • Boil the water.
  • As soon as it boils, put the eggs back in, cover the pan, and turn the water off.
  • Let eggs sit for 10-14 minutes, depending on how hard you like them.

Every once in a while an egg cooked this way will lose its integrity and make with the unwanted egg-drop-soupness - but mostly it works a treat. Weird, eh?

I am told that Trendnet is possibly not the best manufacturer of routers, and it is a good thing that I got it very much on sale. I just was very much looking forward to having wireless. *sad*

The next time I make an attempt at cooking, I shall most certainly do it your way. Thank you!

    • Put eggs in saucepan.

    • Pour enough cold water in there to cover them completely.

    • Salt the water.

    • Set the timer on 9 minutes but don't start it before the water starts to boil.

    • Heat the water with the saucepan lid on and when it starts to boil remove the lid and start the timer.

    • When the timer alarm goes off take the saucepan and pour cold water untill you think the eggs are cold enough.

I have found that Hard-boiled Eggs is really easy to make when following the instructions above. If the eggs by any chance starts to leak (which is very rare) in the saucepan they will mostly only gain a mohawk or a tail (and that is because of the salt added to the water).
