May. 28th, 2009 07:11 pmSo: Anyone still looking for a roommate for VividCon?
Oh my goodness, I was offered a scholarship to VVC. This is absolutely, fantastically amazing -- not to mention entirely unexpected and completely confounding. I'm so tickled that I think my purple prose is about to go ultraviolet.
This is a) exciting, b) exciting, because vidding and meeting people and c) frightening (because these are Real Vidders we are talking about here). It might be a situation where my natural extroversion has to battle it out with my neurotic insecurities. It'll be a caged death match, and hopefully my gregariousness will wipe my insecurities' smug little faces all over the floor. I could sell tickets.
In all seriousness though: thank you to whomever nominated me. You're amazing.
If anyone knows someone who might still be looking for a roommate, I'd greatly appreciate a heads-up. Right now, I'm looking at coming in on the Friday, and leaving on the Monday. The Monday bit is negotiable, though. If I leave on Sunday, I'd have to take off before the shows were over to make it through the international terminal. That, and this way I can go to a museum on Monday!
It would be such a shame to be in Chicago for the first time (and my second time in the states) and not spend a bit of time out and about. I mean -- the Shedd Aquarium! The Field Museum of Natural History! Tell me I'm not the only one interested? We don't have these things hereabouts.
Oh my goodness: VVC YAY.

Date: 2009-05-29 04:27 pm (UTC)PS: This is not only going to be my first-ever VVC, but my first ever (fannish) convention. I mean, I've been on international development ones, and I'm going to one about electrons et. al in a couple of weeks, but something tells me this will be different.

Date: 2009-05-29 04:03 pm (UTC)re: coming in on Friday, some folks do, but we start fairly early, so you might miss a bit on the opening end, as well.
And don't hesitate to post looking for roomies in the VVC LJ, too! eee.

Date: 2009-05-29 04:25 pm (UTC)I am now thinking I will come in on Thursday and leave on Monday -- the flights I've found are about $30 more, but it will give me a chance to see more of the city. If I can find roommates for all these days (possibly unlikely at this point), it shouldn't be too bad. That, and the Lincoln zoo is free, and the art museum is free on Thursday nights.
I probably can't really afford it, but when will I get another chance like this? I am going to try to think of it as my reward for finishing my engineering degree, getting high honours (!) on my bio degree, and getting into grad school. I feel this will help me sleep at night.

I probably should? But I am terrified of posting there, because I am a crazy person. I haven't even said 'Thanks!' to the people who congratulated me, because it feels like barging in all over someone else's territory. Roommates are a requierment, though. *omg!*
