When I was a kid, I used to love the Power Rangers. (They came out when I was eight, okay? Do not judge me.)

I wanted to be the Yellow Ranger when I grew up. She was a martial arts champion and smart, because she was the only one who could decode the geek speak of the Blue Ranger. (We used to play at being Power Rangers, running around in the back yard. We fought over who got to be the Yellow Ranger, and the loser would make up her own female Power Ranger. It was kind of like when we played X-Men -- No one wants to be Jean Grey, any more than they wanted to be the Pink Ranger. What was up with the skirt, anyway?)

The Red Power Ranger? Was my first crush.

Two discoveries have brought up my nostalgia for those days. The first, rather sad -- the Yellow Power Ranger died in a car crash (reference).


The second is rather more off-putting, and slightly scarring.

The Red Power Ranger? Now plays the "straight" guy in gay internet porn to pay the rent (reference).

I used to play the imaginary White Ranger, before the Green Ranger became the White Ranger. Because white is a balance of all of the colour and I was the most powerful that way. My grandma had two of these short wooden sword-things that I would use, and my brother had a little red plastic knife that he used to play Green Ranger and summon his dinosaur-thing from the slough behind the farm house.


Oh, goodness. So very glad he didn't play the Red Ranger.
