Which may not seem like anything much. But to me, it's rather strange. Especially when it's factored in that I have to know what I want to do and where I want to go well before then.

I'm really leaning towards engineering. You get to travel and work with people. You really get to impact things, and you get to help out. It doesn't sound like it would be repetitive, and you get to be your own boss a lot of the time. Not exactly your own boss, but you're not yes-sir ing.

My friends list seems to be made up mainly of non-applied science types, so I'm going on information I've found over the internet. Bad thing? Only about 13-17% of engineers are female. So if you put me in a room with nine other engineers, only part of one of them would be female. (I don't really want to know which part...) It kind of works for me, though. Most places seem to want to attract female students into engineering.

Civil, Integrated, or Environmental Engineering all look promising. Aeronautical and Aerospace too, but I've heard that with that, you tend to work on small pieces of projects and not always see the end results.

The universities you choose for engineering tend to be different than the ones you pick for arts/sciences. UBC, which I just found out is a member of the Universitas 21, offers a dual degree in engineering and arts. It takes five years to complete.

Australian universities tend to offer quite a few dual degree courses. University of New South Wales has a Civil/Environmental, among many others. They also tend to actually have Aeronautical Engineering programs.

Edinburgh looks amazing. Flexible and dual degrees, good reputation, beautiful city. My parents flat out refused to let me take SATs or ACTs, so America is pretty well out. I know that I'll probably end up stuck at the USask, but a girl can dream, right? They say that it doesn't really matter where you go, but it seems to me that better universities do make a difference. They're on the cutting edge. They are the ones making the breakthroughs. Teachers and students are better, and that really encourages you. There are some places that just seem to really care, and USask doesn't come across that way to me. You also have a wider mix of people from all over, and that's important to me. There's only so much you can learn when everyone's the same, or coming from the same place, with similar experiences.

Going anywhere within Canada would be great. I'd love that. But studying overseas, or even just out of country, would be an experience. I want to travel, and it seems to me that university is a great place to start so that no matter what else happens later on, I've at least had that experience.

And in my own defense - Yes, I do know that it will never happen. My parents have made this very clear. I just wish, you know? I'd just love to...
