cherry: (emperor's new groove)

Sometimes, you just have to take a day for yourself. Possibly, if I did this more often, I wouldn't end up taking so many unplanned breaks -- to say that I can have attention span problems might be an understatement.

Watched The Emperor's New Groove. Seriously, people, how much do I love that movie? (The answer is "A LOT," for those playing along at home.)

I'm scaling back my extracurricular involvements next year, a bit. I think this will be good for my mental health, and for my marks in both of the degrees I'm pursuing.

It's probably a bad sign when one of your profs tells you that you need a hobby.

But! It is an excuse to get back into music again, because I miss music so bloody much sometimes. I miss music like I'd miss a limb. I went out and spent money I really shouldn't have on some solo and method books for the flute. I'm planning on joining one of the bands at school next year, assuming I don't end up with a Thursday afternoon lab.

They had oboes in the store. OBOES. I miss my oboe -- which, actually, wasn't mine; hence the fact that I no longer possess it. I own my own flute, but oboes are just a little out of my price range. They are, however, apartment-sized, unlike pianos. Also, I really bloody miss the oboe.

Somebody remind me that an oboe is not a good use of scholarship money?

Please?

I've coveted one of these for a while. Less expensive than an oboe... I think. Certainly less expensive than a tenor sax, which was always my favorite to play.

I'm probably not helping, sorry. ;-)

I've never seen those before, but they sure do look neat.

Yes, kind of not helping. OMG music!

An oboe is not a good use of scholarship money.

P.S. BOOM, BABY. I ♥ David Spade.

Or, to save on postage...

...So this would not be the time to tell you about my nth-hand guitar amp, which I inherited from a former punk rock chemist? As its most prominent feature is the very official "PAID FOR BY [GOVERNING BODY]" sticker demonstrating his efficient use of scholarship funding?

*grins*

So very much not helping, no. *covets*

Why do we even have that lever?

::love:: Especially when Kronk does his own theme music. I lose it every time I see that scene.

Yay, I'm a llama again! .... Wait....

I tend to forget just how much I adore this movie. Then I rewatch it, and I REMEMBER.

Kronk! And the chase scene at the end. The trampoline bit kills me every time, because they are aware of the convention and working it. Also, because I am odd. The "Beware of jaguar" bit is probably my favourite part of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, as well.

"For the last time, buddy, we didn't order a giant trampoline!"

"You know what, pal, you could have told me that before I set it up."

No, some scholarship money is used for things like that. I got a laptop with my bursaries last year? You can get an oboe.

It's just... oboes are expensive. I fear that I wouldn't get the amount of use out of it I should, for a purchase that big. If I'm looking for a non-beginner model -- I have the money, at the moment, but I can't justify spending it.

This is my sad face.

Could you rent one from an instrument hire place? That way you can give it back if you don't use it.

They have a rent-to-own program, but the interest that you pay on those is... well. It's a lot more economic to finance it over, say, a year.

*nods* Well, that kind of defeats the purpose of renting it, doesn't it?

The Emperor's New Groove is one of my favorite Disney movies ever. <3 I commend your good taste. [g]

I know next to nothing about oboes, but I've always thought that they were nifty. Music saves lives! Therefore, good investment. :D

BLASPHEMY! On the other hand, I told you at this time last year that you were crazy for taking all that on, so I'll be happy to see you more sane.

What are you still going to be involved with?

I miss playing my flute too, it's just sitting in a box with unused stuff, I just find it so hard to play when it's not with a band or something like it was in junior high / high school. So instead, I exercise my vocal chords by singing REALLY loudly in the car. It's fun.

I'm amping up my involvement with EWB, but scaling/eliminating the eng soc. But I'm hoping to join the concert band next year, and maybe TA with the bio department, so.

PS: At least YOU can sing.

Yeah, I miss playing my Trombone...although not quite an indoor instrument. I miss music class from highshool...I miss the band trips.

On another note, "Squeeky-Squeek!" XD
