Oh, vidding.

This is a long shot, but it doesn't hurt to ask.
Final Cut Pro has decided that it is too good to render files. It starts to render as usual, but then after a few seconds, the entire program freezes up and has to be force-restarted. As one might guess, this moves vidding from the 'Why is this my hobby?' category to the '... I guess it isn't my hobby at the moment?' territory. Anyone have any idea? It was working just fine, then I ran another render, and everything exploded all over the place. It happened a little way back, but I have
I'll take suggestions, exorcisms, and/or virtual cookies.

3. Trashing your FCP preferences file. Look for help on how to do this before you begin! Then, see if the problem persists. If yes, try
4. Searching the apple.com forums for people who have suffered similar problems.
Could be a corrupt project file, could be a corrupt preferences file, could be something totally weird. If all else fails, customer support is a good thing.
Re: Suggestions
Date: 2008-02-02 08:46 pm (UTC)Do you know: is there any way to fix it, or transport what I have, or do I start from scratch?
Re: Suggestions
Date: 2008-02-02 09:23 pm (UTC)I also recommend searching under "corrupt project file" in the Apple FCP forums.
Good luck!

Date: 2008-02-03 03:13 pm (UTC)Did you do an export of the previous project before it became corrupted? If not, *can* you do one? If so, you could pull the .mov into your new sequence to use as a guide for rebuilding.
Re: Suggestions
Date: 2008-02-04 02:01 am (UTC)It was going to be good, damn it.
Upon further examination, it appears that my SC one is also dead. Maybe it is files over a certain size?
I am going to go and bash my head off of something now, m'kay?

I recommend writing down everything you remember about what you'd done so far. That should make the vid easier to rebuild.
And speaking of rebuilding, it really does sound like you need to rebuild your preferences -- especially now that you're having the same problem on other projects. Take some time to check out the advice on the Apple FCP forums and other places about rebuilding corrupt preferences. It can really help.

Date: 2008-02-06 04:57 am (UTC)I'm going to try rebuilding my preferences. Hopefully this shall prevent further problems.
Honestly? This might be the worst possible hobby for me, given my history of forcing computers into explosive states.

Date: 2008-02-19 02:56 am (UTC)It is too bad that I had to scrap about half of my work on two vids in order to fix this problem -- but the good news is that FCP is not kerploded!

Date: 2008-02-02 06:55 pm (UTC)I have nothing helpful to say except good luck. I could probably rustle up some Latin if you do get to the needing-exorcism phase, though.
