Guys! Guys! There's a new show coming you might find interesting:

Avatar: The Legend of Korra. Also, an interview with Mike and Bryan in which they discuss it further, and pointedly avoid answering questions regarding the movie that is in no way related to their awesome, awesome show.

Female avatar in a steam punk, multi-nation city with rebellion on the horizon!

!!!

I am so there. Show! Oh, show.

In conclusion:

(I LOVE that interview, too! I love what they say about female action heroes! I love that it's going to be set in a CITY! I JUST LOVE THIS WHOLE THING A GREAT DEAL, OKAY?)

I am so excited.

I hope that they give us a break from some of the things that caused me problems in the first series.

While I know rationally and calmly that the show had flaws, when I think about it I feel nothing more than a glowing pool of love.

I think the slight change in focus and format is going to be good for them, though -- it retains the universe but hopefully makes it unique enough for people to process them separately.

I can't believe there's ship-wank already. Oy.

...already?

Who is Korra being shipped with?

Or is this Aang/Katara shipwank?

Heh, well, it does look like there's some dissent regarding whether or not you can ship someone with the reincarnation of his father, but. It appears to be mainly Zutarans flipping their lids.

Not that the Katara/Aang people aren't helping a bit by LOLing at them...

They're probably legally obligated to not say much about it. My favorite authors, Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child, sold their book Relic and it was - horribly, horribly done.

When asked about it, all they could say was: "We really had no involvement in the project at all, and our input wasn't solicited. Contractually, we can't say anything negative about it."

So even if they had more involvement, there's a really good chance that their hands are tied in terms of responding to questions about it, especially if they didn't like it.

OTOH - OMGNEWSHOW.

Heh, yeah. I suspect you're fully correct, but it amuses me much more if they were simultaneously classy and dismissive, by choice.

SHOW. So excited!

Isn't it AWESOME? Of course, there's already wank brewing about it, but I am SO EXCITED. Also, what movie? There was a movie? I deny there was a movie.

Show! *sparkleheartponies!* I don't know if I've ever been bouncing in anticipation for a show before -- what I do watch, I pretty much watch because people start talking about how awesome it is after a while.

SHOW.

I think you mean the smurf-in-space Avatar movie, or something? The one with subtitles in Papyrus?

Once, someone claimed there was a Dead Like Me movie. But I looked it up, and there was no movie with Ellen Muth and Mandy Patinkin, or anything like that. Man, sometimes people just like being wrong, don't they?

Oh, THAT movie. I heard it was horrid. *g* Although I was also told I should see it for the special effects. o.O

I also have never heard of that other movie! Probably just as well. They'd just mess it up....

Well, I'm hoping both the show and movie are good, because I haven't seen either. But I'm going to try to see the movie!

Honestly, I would encourage you not to see the movie. The execution has been horridly racist, and apparently the end product is also sexist. If that's not enough for you, it has a measley 8% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

There's a lot more at racebending.com, if you haven't seen the Race Bending and Aang Ain't White movements.

The show itself is pretty much every type of wonderful there is, though. World building! Character arcs! Long-term plotting! The most awesome characters!

Yeah, world building is a task, and that's why I loved having to do it in my 2nd Wendy fic. (Am I plugging too much here? ;-)) It forces you to stretch your talents, and that's always a good thing.
