I return, now a genuine, bona fide international traveler. And slightly crispy.

Miss me horribly? No? Rather suspected as much.

Possible eight month warning, by the way. I'm moving out in a bit, and Grandma doesn't have internet access. Things are being looked into, but the looking is looking like I may be net-less. If one or two of you would feign a vague sadness, it would be much appreciated.

As for Cali, a blast was had. Ate at a restaurant where sushi floated around in boats (boats I tell you, *boats!*). Saw the ocean for the first time, and spent considerable time jumping in the waves, soaking my shorts and becoming the aforementioned crispy.

Went surfing in half-foot waves and discovered I actually don't look half bad in a wet suit. Was not instructed by my cousin to bail (though in retrospect it seems really rather obvious) and ran into the sharp and pointy mussel-covered rocks on my first wave. Also went to a huge aquarium in Montery and was captivated by the jellyfish and the touch pools.

Toured the Jelly Belly factory, and wandered around all the neat shops in downtown San Fran (there was even an Old Navy! [shaddup -- we don't have an Ikea either, and we only got our sole Starbucks a few months ago]). Wandered through Chinatown. I've never been in a Chinatown, and it was wicked sweet. When we were in TO, they wouldn't let us wander too far down Queens Street because they thought we'd hit Chinatown and get beaten up.

I think I got some really, really nice photographs over all. Got to my cousins' place and discovered they had seasons 1-4 of BtVS and 1 of Angel, as well as newer ones on tape. So I've now finally seen 'Chosen' and 'OMWF.'

You know how I keep saying 'Saskatchewan has a pretty campus. Saskatchewan has a pretty campus. Saskatchewan has a pretty campus?'

Stanford is ever so much prettier.

On the way down there, on my Minneapolis stop-over, I got off the plane and was informed that the eastern seaboard was closed, and that Everything Was On Fire. (Because, of course, the blackouts went down while we were already in the air.) It's nice to see you all over easterly are not flambéed.

There's been a heat wave here in Saskatchewan for a couple of weeks now. I was rather amused by the fact that I went down to California, and was wearing jeans, a sweater, and a woolen hat, while back up here it was in the mid-high forties with the humidity. (For the metrically challenged, that's something like 110 F)

It was nice to get away. Things here were really, really starting to grate. While away, I got to thinking that perhaps this was just me, being me, and unlikable, and therefore having problems with my family, and I'd be nicer when I got back and everything would be great and --

Yeah. Not so much with the happening. I'm trying to sort through the crap and actual garbage that was tossed into my room during the week I was gone, and the mess in my workout area. (I mean, zucchini? Why on earth would you dump zucchini in...)

-- It's kind of strange. In that short week I was gone, I was actually starting to feel better about myself. Less with the self-esteem issues. Perhaps I'm slightly off-kilter. I'm not going to be sad to move out. Does this make me an evil, ungrateful child?

::HUGS:: Missed you too, hon.

(And the Jelly Bellies? They seel 2lb bags of deformed ones for $6, instead of 1lb for $7-8. And if you bought two bags, you got the third free. So I returned with 6lbs of Jelly Bellies in my suitcase, for the bargain price of $12.

I am, of course, not eating them all myself. ::Shares::)
