This is not of the good.

I took a look at the guidelines and dress codes for WEC (Western Engineering Championships) and I think I'm in trouble. Business attire is required for both of my presentations, and it looks like we're expected to dress nicely most of the rest of the time. There's also a formal and a few nights out.

The problem is this.

I own one nice set of clothing. They're my presentation clothes, as well as my formal-type-dance clothes. The rest of the time I live in bunnyhugs and jeans.

I have a pair of black, pinstriped pants, and my choice of the softest,fuzziest yellow crocheted sweater in the world or a black shirt with shiny sleeves.

I don't think that this even counts as business attire.

And I don't still have to get together both of my presentations. Really.

Go to either Syms or Fashion Bug. Both of them carry a pinstripe suit that is pants and a dress. Which lets you make at least two outfits out of it. Three if it has a longcoat and you can wear a shell underneath it as a longcoat dress.

Good luck!

That sounds rather nifty. *G* Unfortunately, the bustling metropolises of Saskatoon are bereft of both Syms and Fashion Bug.

I'll keep an eye out for something of the like, though.

Thanks!

See, I *know* this, just -- bah. Hate shopping. Hate shopping and have very little money.

I think I might have a slightly ... um... slutty skirt stuffed far into the back of my closet somewhere, though.

Op shops. Or charity shops. I'm not sure what you guys call them.

You should be able to find something along the lines of a suit jacket, skirt/pants and shirt. Rotate that and your good outfit.

Hit up your friends, too. See if anyone has anything they'll let you borrow.

I'll check it out if I have time. Thanks, hon.

(Unfortunately? Time is just as much of a limiting factor. I need to get an hour's worth of speeches (and the research they are based on) done by Wednesay.

Gah. ::Head on desk::

The black pinstripe pants would likely work. Your best plan is seperates, in my opinion. Get yourself a black blazer, a black skirt, and a pair of black dress pants. Maybe get a pair of gray dress pants too, if budget allows. Then get a few blouses or shells made of a nicer quality t-shirt material (like jersey), that are cut a little bit more tailored than a standard t-shirt, in whatever colors you like. You can find stuff like this at K-Mart or Target, or even - and it pains me to recommend them - Walmart, in the Kathie Lee section. (Maybe Zeller's and Saan too, although I don't have a lot of experience with those stores.) Mix 'em up, along with your pinstriped pants, and you've got a business wardrobe that will pass muster. The different colors of blouses will make it look like a whole new outfit, when you're really wearing the same jacket and pants every day. If you get some khaki style pants and wear them with the blouses or a nice sweater, you've got "business casual". Also invest in a pair of black pumps, flats or 1" heels, that will dress up the outfits even more. Target and Payless are good places for cheap shoes that don't look cheap. Those slightly silky "trouser socks" or "dress socks" you can find at Walmart or Target work underneath pumps, look very nice, and are somewhat warmer than hose.

-- I totally forgot about shoes. ::Headthunky::

I have. Um. Several pairs of sneaker, my winters, and a tan pair of tall boots.

I'm so screwed.

Thanks for the advice.

(It should be noted that there was absolutely no correction between the last two lines.)

I have no idea what your winters are. Possibly boots? So, if you polished them, they might pass muster under slacks. The tan boots'll do great under pants or with your slutty skirt. *g*

Also, what do your friends have? Is there anything that you'll be able to borrow off them?

Yeah, 'the winters' is missing the key word of 'boots,' and I don't think they'll do. They look funky with jeans, but they're keep my feet warm at -40...

(Also, I'm not sure if I'm actually going to bring the slutty skirt into play. Grandma says it doesn't look good on me.)

So if they're keeping your feet warm in those temperatures, you'll be hideously uncomfotable indoors?

And it was only missing that key word for people like me, who have never, ever had to deal with the concept of snow that doesn't melt on hitting the ground. :P Take the skirt, though, mate. It'll be good for emergencies, if nothing else. Hope the essay writing goes well.

(a) the final night has such an array of clothing, as long as you're not wearing jeans and a hoodie (NOT a bunny hug! And yes, I will bug you about calling it ) to the banquet, you'll be okay. Last year it ranged from people wearing jeans with a button down shirt and a tie for the boys to full suits, and for the girls dress pants with a sweater to cocktail dresses.

I'm probably going to wear a cocktail dress, but that's only because I was so sick on the final night of congress I didn't dress up then. I have a pretty dress I want to wear!

(b) for the presentation all you need to do is look presentable and not like a scrub. Simple as that. I'll be debating, and probably wearing a suit, but I tend to overdress. ;) Again, all you need is to look decent. (If your runners are decent looking, you could probably wear those with the dress pants and not have anyone give you a second look. For the banquet, though, I would not wear runners.

(c) There will be an excessive amount of drinking, and an excessive amount of dancing, so comfortable shoes are a must. I know how Jack and Ian dance. If you're brought into that, it's an all around not good thing if you're not wearing proper shoes. Actually, I danced with Ian at Congress and had to take a break afterwards due to being out of breath.

(d) HAHAHAHAHA, you're not done your presentation yet? Yes, I am laughing at you.

(e) I checked the schedule, but I won't know if I can see your presentation until I get there... the debating schedule is very non imformative.

That's it, if you have any other questions, I'd love to help!

(only 4 more days!!! ::bouncebouncebounce::)

Fucked. I am so fucked.

I have to get the presentations/reports done/started, and fluids, properties of materials, geography, several HARD labs, get excused from the labs and classes I'm going to miss, find clothes that don't make me look like an ugly cow (that's my family's current thing. I'm an ugly cow) and I haven't been sleeping more than three or four hours a night for the last few weeks and I think I'm going insane.

I'm bitchy right now, and I hate that. I hate it when I am, but I'm just freaking out, and I hate feeling like such a homely, stupid child.

Okay. Better now. ::Eyetwitch::

but when you actually get there, and start meeting people, and partying with everyone, and playing hoe-down... it's going to be an absolute blast. I can't wait!

I'm probably going to have to take an afternoon off at somepoint to work on all my solid mechanics homework as well. I'm spending 8 hours tomorrow in a group with 2 of my other delegates to work on hydraulics (a tutorial, lab, and assignment).

Luckily for me, my stuff is all impromptu. It makes me happy. I'm sure you'll do fine with the presentation. Just get a good night sleep on Tuesday night, and you'll be good for the rest of the week. ;)

Sorry. I had a minor meltdown, there. Better now. I'm at school, working and wishing that stupid grad students hadn't taken all of the bioremediation books out of the library.

My main problem is that as far as I project, if I work straight through until Wednesday (when I'm not in class, I have this thing where I go to all my classes, and I tend to have labs all afternoon) I should be just done the reports and powerpoint presentation. So, that'll be done, but I'll be on zero sleep and having nothing to wear to not make me look like a tool, as well as not having my labs and homework done.

As an aside, you remember what I look like enough that you'll recognize me when you see me? Yay for inter-university engineering championships!

Also, don't worry about catching my presentation. I know that anyone is coming to see.

Have you seen a presenation before? What should I expect?
