I wish that I were better at this. I wish that I was one of those people who knows how to string together memories, eulogies, who could be wise or comforting or --

A part of me didn't really believe that this was happening, that she wouldn't turn around, because kielle was fierce. She didn't just build a fandom, she built a community. It limped along after she left, but I don't think that anyone would claim that it was ever quite the same.

She was this larger-than-life figure to me when I first found fandom, and if I want to be honest with myself, she always will be. She took the time to welcome me even though I was young and kind of a stupid kid. I was 15 when I stumbled in. I can't believe that it's been five years, and I can't quite process that she's gone.

I wish I'd know her better.

Oh, my goodness. I had no idea she was ill. I had very little contact with her -- mainly only the fact I was assigned to write a Yuletide story for her last Christmas, and for a while afterwards we exchanged nice emails. She was very gracious, and lovely to me.

How very sad, for someone to flicker out like that, so quickly. I can only hope her end was fairly peaceful.

It was very sudden. I think it was less than a month between her diagnosis with cancer and the end, and I think most of us expected her to turn around. Comics fandom has kind of fallen to pieces, but I'm seeing a huge drawing together on my friendslist right now.

Her husband posted information to his journal and hers -- I know some of it's still flocked, but there are some public posts as well.

I just -- I wish I was better at this sort of thing, but I'm selfish grateful that I haven't had the opportunity to get better.
