The computer is officially exploded.

So the question now is this: MacBooks -- going from a 1.83 GHz to a 2.0GHz processor and from 60GB to 80GB HD: Worth $350?

Or, huh: It looks like you can customize them, so I could stick with the 1.83 GHz, but jump up to 1GB SDRAM (from 512MB) and 100 GB, for $300.

Anyone? Bueler?

Aww... Poor little iBook. *moment of silence*

Did you figure out if you're going to be able to pull your stuff off the old HD?

As for Macbooks, I'd upgrade the RAM and HD as much as you can afford to, but forgo the faster processor. You could probably find RAM a lot cheaper than Apple sells it for, but then Apple doesn't warrant it. Kind of a toss-up, I guess.

It is gone. *sniff*

They're going to be able to pull the data off for me at school -- please tell your brother thank you very much for me?

The thing with the processor is that it turns out that only with that upgrade can you actually get a DVD burner. So it looks like I might up the RAM, and only up the HD to 80. The problem with RAM is that I'm a bit leery of doing it myself after the bad one I had that corrupted my entire bloody computer a year or two back. *is conflicted*

Also, one of the parental units seems to think that I should buy a desktop and get this one fixed, as it wouldn't be too terribly much more expensive. I am rather afraid that something else would go kablooey, though.

Parental units can be a bit too influential on these things... nobody knows your computer usage like you do, so don't let them make the decision for you. How much do your parents use computers in their day to day lives? What do they use them for? See? Different from your usage patterns. ;-)

Cruel fact of life, computers need to be upgraded every few years, especially laptops. Rather than pouring more money into fixing that computer (which has gone gonzo on you before if I recall correctly) I'd just bite the bullet and get a new one. And with your crazy schedule portability would be an excellent feature.

Like I said, I went with the 2.0 GHz processor, upgraded to 1 GB of ram and 80 GB of hard drive space. And the SuperDrive is a nice feature.

Oh yeah, and upgrading to 2 GB of ram is waaaay too pricey. Mike looked closely at that option and decided it wasn't worth it for what he wanted to do! I'm inclined to agree.

And yes, the black is tres sexay, but you'd have to pay the extra $150... not my idea of a bargain! Mike got the black though, it really does look quite nice. More professional and shows less dirt I suppose. And the white apple glowing on the back looks neat. But I'm more of a trendy white kinda gal.
