buffyann:yes, fire seems to be a theme, I love the use
kiki_miserychic:nice morgana and merlin suiting arthur up
obsessive24:really subtle sophisticated editing
kiki_miserychic:understated
kiki_miserychic:loved merlin's lowered head
kiki_miserychic:the tension
buffyann:that's not your usual merlin's vid
buffyann:I like this
obsessive24:I'm getting a love triangle vibe?
kiki_miserychic:ohhh, i love the spinning, so good in vids
obsessive24:maybe love rectangle
kiki_miserychic:rombus
buffyann:love te helmett shot
obsessive24:love rombus ftw
kiki_miserychic:familial maybe even

obsessive24:wow that made my heart hurt
buffyann:I was lost content wise, but that's always the case in the first watch
kiki_miserychic:love the instrumental use
buffyann:that was very subtle, editing wise, I agree
obsessive24:I need to rewatch, but I'm getting a vibe of this being a grown up version of Unsteady Ground
buffyann:the use of instrumental is really interesting here
obsessive24:bold move, worked very well, methinks
kiki_miserychic:i think lyrics wouldn't have worked for what she wanted to create
obsessive24:agreed
kiki_miserychic:would have clogged it up with words
obsessive24:nicely put
kiki_miserychic:more about atmosphere and feeling than about what the words mean
buffyann:yes, I love instrumental for that
buffyann:lyrics are another layer of interpretation
buffyann:without them, it makes the images more raw and the music is just guiding the feelings, I don't know
kiki_miserychic:maybe she thought people trying to "get"the lyrics would have muddled it.
kiki_miserychic:or maybe the song just felt perfect to her and i'm reading in too much
obsessive24:she didn't need it to make the point, which is what matters
buffyann:yes

this was really beautiful. to me, it underlines that despite all the silliness on the show, everyone carries some heavy burdens and continuously faces very difficult decisions.

I really enjoyed this vid. You worked incredible things with no lyrics, and the whole thing reads like a slow, inevitable descent into hell for all involved. I've always loved that the show bears hints of what is to come; Morgana looking so righteous in her assassination plot; Arthur's brief friendship with Lancelot; Gwen looking so innocent and painful at the death of her father; Morgana sheltering Mordred; and Merlin in amongst it all, desperately trying to stop things from coming apart at the seams. I especially loved the torch at 0:22, the dual poisoned chalices at 0:54, the sword connection around 1:40, the fantastic shift in tone at 1:43, and the amazing way the water slows down on the string crescendo at 2:21. It's all incredibly beautiful.

Thank you ever so much -- you're always much too kind to me. *G* To me, one of the most compelling things about this show are the threads of inevitability already running through the happy/crack.

I was a little nervous about working with an instrumental for a vid like this, but the texture and the tenor of the music were perfect, so I'm so very glad that it worked for you.

I've only watched the first 4-5 episodes of Merlin so I'm not sure what's going on (at least I know who these people are!), but the song choice and the beautiful cross-fades really flow well together to create a sense of longing and regret. A gorgeous vid.

WOW. I'm a little late to the party, I see, but I found a link to your vid when looking through someone else's lj, and this vid is astounding. It's the most tragic and OT4 (OT5?) vid I've ever seen, but the most amazing part is how you pretty much told their whole story using only clips from season 1, the beginning of everything! By the end it's Morgana and Mordred and Merlin and dungeon bruises, and Arthur vs Lancelot and Arthur and his sword fallen in the lake - wow. This blew my mind. Great, great job - beautiful selection of clips and music, beautiful transitions and really creative combinations of images.
