Land's End
In the city where the tall shapes live
In the valleys where the walls cave in
Let the walls cave in
If you really want to float past the fields and canyons
Let the walls cave in
On the edges where the falls face in
In the crannies where the small snakes swim
Let the walls cave in
If you really want to row all the way to the land’s end

Don’t ever allow it, don’t ever allow it
Awake in the waiting sea, awake

In the city where the crawl space lives
In the tunnels where the walls cave in
Let the walls cave in
If you really want to float past the fields and canyons
Let the walls cave in
In the shadows where the claws break skin
On the ridges where the guard rail thins
Let the walls cave in
If you really want to row all the way to the land’s end

Don’t ever allow it, don’t ever allow it
Awake in the waiting sea
Awake and we’re waiting
Home will push you outward
Hope will pull you upward
Awake in the waiting sea, awake

When the time is right to raise some children, we will then
Like a roaring noise, filled with all the joys this life allows
When the time has come to lie beside us, they’ll find us
Like an open flame, let our smoke remain against the clouds

I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS. I CAN'T EVEN FORM COHERENT WORDS RIGHT NOW. I'll just sit here and flail until the English language returns to me.

Seriously, the parallels. The space suits! The death scenes! THE EDITING IT IS GLORIOUS.

<3 Thank you ever so much for your kind words. There were so many parallels when when I went back to clip -- far more than I remembered. I'm glad I was able to bring them together for you.

OMG, I'm all incoherent. It's . . . a River vid. I mean, not River/Doctor, not 'River Song is Awesome.' A vid about River, about her life. And it's amazing.

I think I've watched it five or six times already . . .

Thank you so much! The world needs more River, in my opinion. Quite a large number of things are better with more River.

OH MY GOD! That was absolutely amazing and gorgeous and... PARALLELS! VISUALS! MOVEMENT! I... I can't even form proper sentences right now, there was just so much going on in that vid, so much brilliant, gorgeous stuff that I was watching and constantly going "Wow! That was good-- OH, Nice! WOW! That was the bes-- No, THAT was the bes-- OK, THAT WAS DEFINITELY THE BEST-- How did that-- GAH! Brilliant. Oh, clever-- DUDE! AWESOME!".
I would love to sound not like a babbling mess right now, but I honestly wouldn't know where to start with this vid! It's just... amazing! Thank you for sharing this!

I need to re-watch it about million times because of how amazing it is (and to get to grips with all the layers), but I just wanted to comments straight away and thank you for making this, because it echoes so many thoughts I've had (and explores tons of other ones) and brilliantly so! Oh River.

AHHHH THIS IS AWESOME. I want to watch it a bunch more times so I feel like I've pulled more out of it, but it's really smart and insightful and with completely gorgeous use of movement and parallels. The bit that got me most on this first viewing was River punching Ten and then Eleven staggering to the ground. Just wonderful. Also I really appreciated how much Amy you used and the ways in which you tied their storylines together. Wonderful!

Thank you ever so much, hon! I'm so glad you liked it. The parallels were really just sitting there, waiting to be teased out. I'd forgotten just how many there were until I started clipping. I'm rather fond of that punching-staggering sequence myself, so I'm so glad you liked that as well!

Awww, thank you. There was something almost organic about making this -- the song itself pulled me out of a random new music play list, and it was like the parallels and arcs were just waiting to be teased out of the source.

Thanks again so much for beta help, too!

Absolutely amazing video. The parallels are brilliant - a few in there I'd never considered, even though they're so clear in retrospect, like Amy and River discovering each others' childhood photographs in dark abandoned rooms. The editing is gorgeous, full of snatched pieces of movement and tiny visual parallels to match the narrative ones, and I love the overlays, particularly at the end - the hint of Melody regenerating before it fades to River falling is a stunning way to end it.

I still have conflicted feelings about the reveal, but I feel this is so all encompassing and complicated it...I'm not sure, helps sell me on the tangled web of family surrounding River and think less about the individual relationships within that web that I'm no longer certain how I feel about?

Regardless, it's a perfect vid to a perfect song - thank you for posting it!

Thank you so much! I'm so glad you liked it. The overlays were fun to work with, and there was something almost organic about making this. I'd forgotten just how many parallels there were until I went back and started clipping. I'm so glad that it came together for you.

Personally, I think I like the reveal -- though I've always been a sucker for a dramatic reveal, so that might be a part of it. I can certainly see where people would be conflicted! I love a lot of little details in retrospect -- like that River Song is currently a Doctor, not a Professor, and to the people of the Gamma Forest, Doctor means mighty warrior. I love that bit especially.

I really enjoyed this. Suitably creepy.

I especially liked:

- River punching Ten at 1:59 and then Eleven falling to his knees on the sand

- followed quickly by River's death and then the Doctor's death on the beach

- all the clips of the various astronaut suits

- the parallels between River in Amy's deserted house and Amy searching the orphanage

let me put it this way, 2 question mark umbrellas arrived from America yesterday and now I have a new tv but this video is still more epic and I have just realised the reason River was angry about the spaceman and was distraught/disturbed by it was because to her it was the distant past, something she didn't know she would be involved in, again, and a reminder of the similar fate approaching her, the day the Doctor wouldn't recognize her. Perhaps that's why they always meet in reverse, because each sees the other after they've seen the other's 'death' and the only way they can go is at odds to the other's personal timeline and when each approaches the other from the wrong end, the timelines are destined to run opposite each other most of the time.

Just watched this..and am slightly incoherent, but am trying to pull some words out to say this is some of the most incredible bits of DW vidding I've ever seen. Still soaking it in need to watch a few more dozen times. The parallels, ...the gorgeous movement...visually, beyond beautiful. This vid is incredible.

So I saw this vid right before leaving for my vacation and took it with me and basically watched it on loop for two weeks. It's just phenomenal. I LOVE the song choice. And just gah, everything about it.

Favourite things! :

- 0:34-0:36 is so smooth and awesome!
- all the parallels you draw DRIVE ME CRAZY, dude! Amy crying! All the deaths! Kissing!
- the "in the shadows where the claws break skin" section is SO BEAUTIFUL I CAN'T. RIVERRRRR!
- the whole 2:16- 2:37 section is my absolute favourite because of lyrics! and also because i hadn't noticed the River in Amy's house/Amy in the orphanage parallel and it's just wonderful and yeah, again, the lyrics and what you match them to is just chill-inducing dlkfjdsljf
- "when the time is right to raise some children, we will then" OUCH, THAT WHOLE SECTION. :/
- that whole bit with the battle at the end of day of the moon is so awesomely edited!

So yeah, I kind of really love it! I might have gone into too much detail about it but that's the main thing. Great job! :D

Awwwwww, thank you. There is no such thing as too much detail (though there is such thing as taking too long to reply to comments, sorry!) I set out to make a River vid, but to be honest, I was not expecting all these parallels. The song was one that I hadn't really listened to before, but as soon as it came up in rotation I had to do it.

I'm so glad you liked it, thanks!
