Gimme a 'C!' Gimme an 'A!' Gimme a 'L!' Gimme an 'I!'

Ah, screw it, California is just too long to spell out like that.

I'm going to California!

Not right now. Sometime after by birthday. So, mid-August, probably. My cousin's husband is finishing his PhD at Stanford, and for a grad/bday present they're flying me down for a bit.

Y'know, before this year, I'd only been out of the province three times, and then only out west. Now I've been to AB with the band, and out east for a trip that kicked ass. And I get to go to California! I've never been to the States before, what with it not being 'out west.'

I've always wanted to tell an American I have a pet penguin. ::Wicked Grin::

I'm attempting to find out if I'll need a passport. A photo ID (ie. my driver's) and a birth certificate should do, shouldn't they?

Hehehe. I'm going to California!

Hrm...

Well, when I flew into Toronto, that was all I needed (I did get hassled, but that's because the guy was an ass) but what with all the 'heightened security' I'm not sure if that's the case anymore. A passport is a safe bet, but I know they also take time to process. There's probably someone around here with more recent flight experience who could fill you in better.

But I'm just so cute and innocent looking...

Seriously, I've done some enquiring, and I don't think it'd be ready before I left. So here's to hoping I don't need one.

You won't need a passport. Just the driver's license and birth certificate is enough. (Going into Canada, I've never even needed the birth certificate, but it can't hurt.)

::Nods:: Thanks.

Now, to locate my birth certificate...

I had the same problem back when I was taking driver's ed. I couldn't find my birth certificate, and apparently hadn't had one for eight years.

For eight years of my life, if pressed, I could not prove I was born. I am inordinately amused by this.

::G:: Thanks. I doubt I'll be in Texas, but if I am, I'll let you know.

Woo, spiffy! Have fun!

I don't know about the passport. You ought to check. The times I travelled to the States were when I was quite young, and I was under my mom's passport, but i think she needed to bring hers. Plus, you know, Canada harbours terrorists and everything, so they might have pushed up the requirements.

Terrorist, me? ::Doe eyes:: How could they ever think such a thing?

The thing is, though: with the results from the inquiries I've been making, I don't think I'd get a passport back before I was off. Then again, they could just be over-estimating to spare their butts if a snag comes up...
